Add to Recall

Drop files into Uncategorized or a library from the plus button.

The File tab

Open + Add to Recall, then File. The dialog has two panes. Left is the drop. Right is Destination.

Add to Uncategorized shows the real inbox path, in mono. Add to library lists your libraries. Pick one, then drop.

Drag a file over any part of the dialog. The folder icon opens. A chip shows 1 file or N files.

Choose files is a quiet outline button. In the desktop app it opens the OS picker. The browser cannot see real file paths, so drop needs the installed app.

After a drop

A toast confirms the add. It can open Uncategorized or the library you picked. The dialog closes.

Recall remembers the last destination the next time you open File.

Drop on an open library

Dragging from Explorer onto an open library uses the same two-pane overlay. You can land in that library or send the files to Uncategorized.

How files move

Recall does not pretend every drop is the same action.

  • Already in the Uncategorized folder: index only. The file stays where it is.
  • In Downloads or a watch folder: move into the destination, then ingest.
  • Anywhere else: copy into the destination, then ingest.

A library-page drop can still ask Move vs Watch when the files sit outside that library. Move puts them in the library folder. Watch leaves them where they are and indexes the folder.

Dropped folders flatten into files, unless the drop is a course folder. A course folder stays one course item. You can also make a Group from each folder on a library drop, and keep those items off All items if you want the Group tab only.

Quick Capture is a sibling

Quick Capture is for a link or a note. It is not for Explorer files. Use File when you have something on disk. Use Quick Capture when you have a URL or you want to write a note.

What this is not

There is no browser button that sends a page into Recall. Add to Recall is the plus control in the app.
