Libraries
A library is a folder you already have, plus a Blueprint and views.
You fill it
A library is a folder you already have, plus a Blueprint and views. You choose what enters. Nothing shows up unless you put it there.
Point Recall at the folder, or drop files with Add to Recall. Either path lands items you can open.
Ten starters
The wizard list is the type list. Nothing invented on top:
- Audio
- Video
- Images
- Documents
- Courses
- Websites
- Books
- Code
- Data
- Custom
Pick the starter that matches the files. Custom is for a mix you do not want to force into one of the others.
Pointers, not a vault
Originals stay on disk. Recall stores pointers and writes a .recall sidecar beside the source. The index lives in %APPDATA%\Recall\data.
That is the opposite of an upload locker. If you move the folder in Explorer, tell Recall. The files are still yours.
See Your data for the disk map.
Dump folders vs libraries you built
Downloads and other watch folders are dump folders. Filing from there can move the file into the library folder.
A library you created by pointing at an existing collection stays as pointers, unless you choose Move on a drop. Watch leaves the files where they are and indexes that folder.
When a row looks wrong
Force Rescan rebuilds what Recall thinks is in the folder. Use it when a file ingested as the wrong type. An Office file that landed as unknown before 0.1.7 is the usual case. After a rescan it should open as a document.
Groups
A Group is a tab inside one library, not a second library. A dropped folder can become a Group. Items in that Group can stay off All items unless you check otherwise.
Use Groups when one folder on disk is a pile you want to browse on its own. Do not make a new library for every subfolder.
Day one
Add one folder, or drop one file into a starter library. Open the item. That is enough. You can ignore Blueprints until you care about fields.
