Uncategorized
New files land here until you file them into a library.
What it is
Uncategorized is the inbox. It is not a library. Watch folders and Downloads can feed it. Items sit here until you file them.
Nothing about this screen is a promise that Recall will sort the pile for you. You pick a destination when you are ready.
What you do
Select one item or a few. Choose a library from the toolbar, or drag them onto a library in the sidebar. That files them.
Space opens Quick Look. Esc, Space again, or a click outside closes it. Quick Look does not file the item. Enter still opens Review.
Grid cards can show a real cover when one exists. Folders use a folder icon. A size slider sets how many columns fit.
What you can ignore
Rules can suggest a library after you file the same kind of file a few times. Stale badges mark items that have waited past your window (seven days by default). Hover STALE for that sentence.
You can ignore both on day one. The inbox still works if you never open Rules.
When the inbox is empty, the gear is still there. You can set up rules later. Waiting copy is not an AI promise.
How files get here
Recall can watch folders you chose in the wizard or in Settings. New files in those folders show up here.
You can also drop files with Add to Recall. Destination can be Uncategorized, or a named library if you already know where it belongs.
Dismiss, if you do not want it
You can hide a row, send it to the OS Recycle Bin, or delete it for good. Recall asks once. A Don't show again checkbox lives on that confirm. Settings can turn the warning back on.
Dismiss is for junk in the inbox. It is not how you file a keeper.
Filing is the job
The point of Uncategorized is a short stay. File an item into a library when you know what it is. After that, you open it in a Workbench.
The Dashboard can show an Uncategorized count. Morning Brief can include the same digest if you turn that on. Neither one files anything for you.
